What happened to everyone else

Every backtest on this site is a simulation. This page is not. These are real accounts on a public exchange, with real money, and the exchange publishes what happened to each of them.

Of everyone who has ever traded

Hyperliquid publishes a leaderboard of accounts with their profit over four windows. We take every account that has actually traded and count how many are down.

50.4%are down over their whole history
-1.0%median lifetime return
43,743accounts that have traded
-100%worst 5% of accounts returned

It depends enormously on how long you look

The denominator matters more than the numbers do. An account that did not trade today has a profit of exactly zero today — counting it as "not losing" pushes the daily loss rate down to 12.5%. We only count accounts that actually traded in each window.

Where the profit went

43,743 accounts have traded. The profit is not spread among them.

1accounts 2.6%
10accounts 9.8%
100accounts 32.1%
1,000accounts 68.6%

What this sample is, and is not

So the real share of people who lose money is worse than the number above, not better.

Our own backtests say the same thing

Thirteen textbook strategies, three markets, six timeframes. Only one — buying a fixed amount on a schedule — beat simply holding in all three markets. Outside crypto, trend-following collapsed entirely.
